Submerging and vocalizing
underwater, not in drum but in vast Red Sea, has proven to
be effective for a young kid from Sunrise International
School in Jeddah who recently bagged the Grand Prize of a
kingdom-wide singing contest in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
when she sang Regine’s “What Kind of Fool I Am”.
Nine-year old Coline Gabrielle Apon Fernandez emerged as the
first KSA’s singing sensational kid when he defeated other
finalists from different regions during the Search for Birit
Bulilit 2006 Grand National Finals last December 14, 2006 at
the Liwasang Bonifacio, Philippine Embassy, Riyadh, K.S.A.
organized by the Special Event (SE) Productions.
Just like her favorite idol Regine Velazquez, her discipline
in daily practices and vocal lessons under her mentor, Don
Cuarema (of SE Productions Jeddah) and her dad. Ian, proved to be appropriate in singing
even in a freezing temperature and drizzling rain shower in
Riyadh (reaching a 5C).
“Aside from sinking me in the water, my dad reminds me to
shun away from cold drinks, chocolates and ice cream to have
a better voice”, Coline revealed. “Although I missed my
favorite chocolates, I have to follow him since I enjoy
singing.”, she added.
Coline is the second child of Eva and Ian Fernandez. Aside
from her passion in singing, she is also a topnotch achiever
in her class and a scholar in Sunrise International School.
Charmine Kay Celestino Concepcion of International
Philippine School in Al-Khobar emerged as 1st Runner-up
while another Jeddah finalist, Fern Roshan Castro came 2nd
Runner-up.
Other finalists are Pia Marie Paulican, Christelle Marie
Aliasas from Central Region; Aljon Indefenso and Angelica
Aranas from Eastern Region, and Ianna Monique Fernandez from
Western Region.
The winners received cash prizes, Mediacom products, Gift
Certificate from Skyfreight Forwarders and a scholarship
from Filpop Music Center under Dr. Ronnie Molina. |
